Your Guide to Tackling Daily Anxiety

Life inevitability becomes overwhelming with those never-ending to-do lists. And the stress of it all typically turns into anxiety. People feel anxiety in various ways, such as fatigue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, headaches, worry, shortness of breath, and difficulty falling asleep. Experiencing anxiety can be challenging when you do not have space in your day to deal with it. However, there are ways that you can combat your anxiety while keeping up with your responsibilities. 

1. Take a second to breathe. When your throat is closing in, and it feels like someone is sitting on your chest, take a break. Step away from the task and take five deep breaths. Focus on your breath the entire time. This will increase the supply of oxygen to your brain and promote a state of calmness. 

2. Listen to music. Turn on your favorite song, nature sounds, or any music that is soothing to you. Play it when you feel anxious to reduce your stress levels. This is a proven method of reducing blood pressure and heart rates.

3. Take a break, and get moving. Even if you are nowhere close to finishing what needs to be done, give yourself a break. Your work/chores will be there when you get back! You could stretch your body, do a short yoga class, or walk outside. All forms of movement help reduce anxiety, allowing your brain to calm down, and improving your productivity when you return. 

4. Laughter can be highly beneficial in decreasing feelings of anxiety. The act of laughing increases oxygen levels and relaxes your muscles. Laughter lightens the heaviness of anxiety, and improves your mood. Watch short comedy clips, scroll through Tik Tok, or call a friend that always makes you giggle. You won't regret it!
