Hello! Hi! How are you?!
Are you feeling a little low? Anxious? I totally get it. Especially during these chaotic times, it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed with negative emotions. When I’m feeling blue, I consult my “Mental Health Check-In” list to optimize my well being. Here, I’ll show you how it works!
First, consult your list of questions. Answer “Yes” or “No” next to each question.
- Have I gone outside today?
- Have I talked to friends recently?
- Have I talked to my family?
- Am I doing something creative every day?
- Is my living space clean?
- Am I taking my medication?
- Have I been drinking enough water?
- Have I been fueling my body properly?
- Have I gotten out of my pajamas today?
- Am I staying active?
These are my essential ingredients to maintaining a balanced mind. You can add or subtract whatever you please to create your personalized list! After I finish answering my questions, I separate out the “No’s” from the “Yes’s”. I then choose one “No” per hour to complete during the day, until my mood begins to improve. For instance, if I answered “No” to “Have I gotten out of my pajamas today?”I might choose to change into a cute outfit! I firmly believe your external actions guide your internal state. While many feelings are completely out of your control, you do have the power to maximize your joy by regularly checking in on your mental health. I hope these tips help you overcome that gloomy slump. And remember, there is no shame in reaching out to medical professionals if you feel unable to overcome these obstacles on your own.
