3 Tips to Manage Your Anger in a Relationship

Face it: we all rage sometimes - whether it's over a small thing or something major. On occasion, it can seem like it's hard to control your anger and how you feel in the moment. Relationships can suffer when you say things you don't mean. How can you prevent this? Let me give you some tips on controlling your anger in relationships.

First, you should identify your emotions. Anger is a feeling that builds up inside us due to frustration or resentment. Some of us may encounter this feeling every day, while others may suppress it to prevent upsetting people around them. The truth is, it is a natural emotion we can all experience from time to time, but it is not healthy to feel this every single day, or to let it steal your joy. Someone could annoy you, or you could encounter a difficult situation. Often, people choose anger over peace. We allow ourselves to get overwhelmed by little things that are just temporary problems.

When you're angry, the first thing you should do is take a deep breath and walk. For me, walking calms me down when I'm upset. By walking away from the problem, I can relieve my anger. By doing so, it will let you reflect on what just happened, and slow down your heart rate. Walking away when you feel angry is always the best course of action. The last thing you want to do is to lash out at someone and say or do something you regret. Let yourself have a chance to think and relax.

You may also consider reading when you are angry. I often read to relax my mind after a bad experience. This is a new way to find peace for me. It will help you to clear your thoughts and settle down. I used reading to relax after a stressful day of school when I was 15. I decided to pick up this habit again, because reading allows me to escape from the world around me. While going through a hard time, it is a healthy source to help you find some peace and quiet.

The last option I have for you is to write away your anger. Writing is what I love to do, and I first discovered it while writing in a journal. If someone upsets me, I tend to write about it. There are times when you are unable to articulate to others what you are feeling, so you decide to put it down on paper instead. It is an effective strategy for releasing your emotions when you're frustrated. There is no need to worry about whether or not anyone is listening to you or judging you. The only thing you need to do is put all your feelings onto paper or on the keyboard.

We can all get angry, but it is good to know how to control it. A bad situation is only temporary. Do not allow anyone or anything to take your joy. Try one of these options when you are upset! I am certain that if you follow these few steps, you will foster a happy and healthy mindset.
