Do I Bother Calling?

Do I Bother Calling?

A phone call is asking too much in this modern society. I mean, it is my fault interrupting your lounging time, asking you to relocate five feet from the bedroom to find your phone...so invasive, bothersome, and even tedious! The impersonal touch of a misspelled, emoji-filled, and abbreviated text message is so much warmer than a human voice. If I could show an enormous eye roll through lettering, believe me, I would.

I am a 22-year-old woman who yearns for a phone call from a friend instead of a laborious cat-and-mouse game of texting or even worse...snap chatting. Why can’t I just call you and listen to your voice and gain a real connection with you?

People ignore you, leave you on “read”, or don’t even bother writing out full, coherent thoughts. I am sick of these meaningless interactions. It is infuriating when I am forced to ask someone what the hell they are saying, as the message is drowning in abbreviations, misspelled words, and half-thoughts.

I have to say, one of the most aggravating things is when someone loses track of what we were even talking about in the first place, because it has been over 24 hours since they engaged in the conversation

I cannot stand when I am left on “read” for endless hours, because I don’t understand why you opened the text if you weren’t ready or available to respond in the near future. You are inevitably going to forget you opened it and your friend will be royally hurt! Unless it is your intention to ghost them (which is yet another cowardly move brought on with the era of cancel culture and dating apps), then respond. Simple as that.

Signing off my rant, hoping to dwindle down my screen time, and increase my call time,  so as not to be seen as a hypocrite …
