4 Fun Activities for a Long Distance Relationship

Long distance relationships can be hard. It is not uncommon for someone to want to be close to their significant other. However, sometimes the distance cannot be avoided. While many people don’t mind long distance, it can be challenging for any person experiencing it. Not being able to do the same activities as in person couples can be difficult. Fortunately, with some creativity you can still find great activities to bond over.

1. Plan out regular phone calls

This can also include Zoom or Facetime. Carving out specific chunks of time during the week to talk can greatly improve communication. Long distance schedules, especially when there is a time difference, can get confused and messed up. These regularly scheduled phone calls can be something to look forward to and a great way to start a routine together.

2. Write emails

I just read a Sally Rooney book that had a plot based around two friends emailing each other, and it brought back my love of emailing. Emailing is intimate and makes it easier to say what you really want to say. Being able to email your partner at any time, unlike a phone call, can make them feel closer to you even if  they’re on the other side of the country or even the world. Getting a surprise email is a great feeling and emailing someone can be a great way of showing  someone you are thinking about them.

 3. Start a book club

This can be a great way of bonding over similar interests. Reading isn’t for everyone, but if you find a genre you both like, it can be an amazing way to connect and start new conversations. Try setting a time schedule for reading and discussing the book. This helps develop a routine for the relationship and makes the long distance feel a bit more normal and comfortable. Having a routine can majorly help communication in a long distance relationship.

 4. Watch the same TV shows

Like a book club, watching the same TV show at the same time and discussing it or texting about it can be a great way to connect. You can even Facetime at the same time while watching to get real-time reactions. Having a hobby you two share is great for bonding and can make watching TV a lot more fun even if  that person isn’t physically next to you.
